Project Papillon

Project Papillon ChildrenEvery great work must begin with a dream. This was the case as John Louis Dieubon began working with children in his native country of Haiti.

John was just a young man himself when he found himself working with homeless and orphaned children. He began working and volunteering in homes for children that were overcrowded, under staffed, and had little or no supplies for the children. Many times the children were left to their own devices, as there was a serious lack of structure and discipline in many of these facilities. It was through these experiences that the dream of "Project Papillon" was born in John's heart.

John was working with homeless children in the Delmas area of Haiti when he decided he wanted to open a project for children himself. He dreamed of a facility where children were treated as more than just Haitian children, but were treated with love and respect. He wanted them treated as the creations that God created them to be....children created in the likeness and imagine of God himself. However, the funds necessary to begin this type of project were lacking, and without these funds, this seemed like an impossible dream. GOD had another idea!

In September 2004, John was volunteering his time to help the people in a slum area of Haiti, Cite Soliel. Many American people were there doing various other types of charitable works. There was a young, American man by the name of Aaron Jackson. Mr. Jackson observed John and the care with which he cared for the Haitian people. He was so impressed that after meeting John for a second time, he decided he wanted to support the idea of a home for children.

In November 2004, the first Papillon project opened. Since the start of this initial project, Project Papillon has opened 4 shelters for children. Two of these shelters care for children who are living with the HIV/AIDS virus. These facilities provide the children with a home environment, proper nutrition with three meals per day, a proper education, a clean and safe home environment, medical attention, and lots and lots of LOVE! Project Project Papillon ChildPapillon is registered by the government of Haiti and recognized as a housing facility for children. John Dieubon currently serves as Founder and Director of these projects.

John's philosophy for these projects is simple: These children should not be treated like common, Haitian children. They should be treated as people who were created in the image of God!

John writes, " Project Papillon and CMI want to make a difference in the world of Haiti. We believe that Haiti will be changed with the initiative from all Haitian people. When the people catch the vision to help their own people, Haiti will be changed. In so many orphanages, children are so excited when they see American people. They were more excited over the Americans than they were the "noir" people. This is because the Americans give better care to the Haitian kids. Our goal is to make Haitian kids see people and love people...not color! We teach our workers to love the kids and care for them so the kids will see that Haitians love them and in return, they will love Haiti. Most Haitian people want to leave Haiti and speak negatively about Haiti. We want our children to love their country! For so many years, Haiti has been under the oppression of the government. This happens because the people leading our country were oppressed when Project Papillon Childthey were children, and now that is what they are sowing back into our country. However, we are training kids to be better leaders of Haiti, better police officers, better teachers, better senators, and better Presidents."

Currently, John and CMI are working toward opening Papillon Village. This piece of property would be a larger area for the children. They would like to see a school open so that the children can attend school on the premises. This facility would allow for a training center, possible medical facility, gardens for nutritional health, and meeting center for CMI.
